Robotics & Automation

Robotics and automation, starting from your process.

Whether you’re exploring your first robot, improving an existing cell or looking for the right equipment, we start with the job you need to accomplish—not a particular robot model.

I work with Eurobots and ReBots to help turn application requirements into practical options, from equipment selection and technical evaluation to R&D and proof of concept.

Applications

What could you automate?

Most robotics projects start with something practical: repetitive handling, inconsistent production, difficult-to-fill tasks, heavy components or a process that needs more flexibility. These are some of the applications we help customers explore.

Applications in practice

Robotic & cobot welding

Consistent welds on repeat parts, without depending on scarce skilled welders for every one of them.

Use the finder for this
Technical fit & technologies
Suitable when
  • Recurring parts and long or multi-pass weld sequences
  • Small batches and frequent changes with a cobot welding package
  • Upgrading an existing welding cell
Typical technologies
  • Arc (MIG/MAG), spot, stud and laser welding robots
  • Welding sources, positioners and rotary tables
  • DOBOT CR10 MIG/MAG welding package

One process, two architectures

We choose between them from your parts and production, not from a catalogue. What decides it:

  • Batch size
  • Changeover frequency
  • Payload and reach
  • Cycle time
  • Part size and fixturing
  • Welding process
  • Operator involvement
  • Risk assessment
  • Industrial robot welding
    • Long runs, high throughput or a short takt
    • Heavy or large parts and long seams
    • Spot, stud or laser welding

Industrial robot, welding package, positioner or track, guarded cell.

  • Mixed or unclear?

An engineering evaluation compares both on your parts before you decide.

  • Collaborative (cobot) welding
    • Small batches and frequent product changes
    • Welders set up each job and teach by hand
    • Parts and torch within cobot payload and reach

Cobot, welding package, table and fixtures, with screens and guarding set by the risk assessment.

On both paths A risk assessment decides guarding, welding screens and fume extraction. A collaborative arm does not remove arc radiation, fumes, spatter, hot parts, pinch points or the motion of the torch and surrounding equipment.

Machine tending

Machines wait for an operator to load the next part — or operators spend whole shifts doing it.

Use the finder for this

  • Force/torque sensors and vision

Technologies

Choosing the right technology.

The application comes first. These are some of the technologies and approaches that may help.

Cobots and flexible automation

Collaborative robots work close to people and are quick to re-teach, which suits changing tasks and smaller batches. Collaborative does not mean automatically safe: every application still needs its own risk assessment, and some still need guarding.

Typical uses & technologies
  • Machine tending
  • Welding
  • Inspection
  • Laboratory automation
  • Assembly
  • Pick and place
  • Education

Cobots in the Eurobots and ReBots range include DOBOT, KUKA LBR iisy, Omron/Techman, Universal Robots and JAKA.

Vision-guided robotics

Cameras let a robot find, check and measure parts instead of relying on perfect positioning. We start by testing your real parts, because lighting, surfaces and tolerances decide what is feasible.

Typical uses & technologies
  • 2D location
  • 3D vision and bin picking
  • Inspection and defect detection
  • Measurement
  • Mixed-box depalletizing

Mech-Mind 3D cameras and vision software, 2D vision and robot calibration, with most robot brands.

Mobile robotics

Autonomous mobile robots move material without fixed conveyors or floor tracks. With a cobot on top, they can also handle parts at each station.

Typical uses & technologies
  • Bins and carts between areas
  • Connecting production stations
  • Warehouse and lifting transport
  • Mobile manipulation
  • R&D and pilots

YOUIBOT AMR platforms and lifting series, automatic chargers and the ReBots mobile manipulator (AMR + cobot).

ReBots R&D and proof of concept

Test the hard part before you invest in the rest.

ReBots, the Eurobots spin-off, works on newer technologies: cobots, AMRs, vision and mobile manipulation. A proof of concept tests the riskiest part of an idea on real parts and gives a clear go/no-go.

Details
Questions a PoC answers
  • Can the robot pick this part reliably?
  • Can an AMR and a cobot work together at this station?
  • Is the cycle time realistic?
  • Which architecture should the real system use?
Typical technologies
Cobots, AMR/AGV, 2D/3D vision, AI-assisted perception, communication gateways and IoT.

Complete robotic cells

A successful robot application needs more than a robot.

A working robotic application brings together the robot, tooling, sensing, control, safety, material flow, software and the people responsible for operating and supporting it. The engineering work is not only selecting each component, but making sure the complete system fits the process.

Welding, machine-tending, milling, palletizing, inspection and educational cells, and mobile-manipulation pilots.

  1. Vision 2D/3D cameras find and check the part
  2. Robot and tooling Arm with gripper, torch or spindle
  3. Process Fixture, part handling and the work itself

Control and safety

  • Robot controller Motion, programs, I/O
  • PLC and HMI Cell logic and the operator screen
  • Safety Guarding, scanners and interlocks from the risk assessment

Linked by industrial communications

Material and data

  • Peripherals and infeed Conveyors, positioners, tables, feeders
  • Mobile material flow (optional) AMRs bring and take parts where it fits
  • Software and data Offline programming, recipes and production data

Parts in, parts out, data back

Engineering and support Design, simulation, integration, commissioning, training and service around the whole cell

A cell is a connected system: the robot sits in the process flow, tied to control, safety, material and data, with engineering around all of it.

Engineering and consulting

When I review an automation idea, I look beyond the robot arm: tooling, sensing, control, safety, production flow and the people who will use the system all matter. My role is to help identify the technical direction, evaluate uncertainties and make the handoffs between equipment, engineers, suppliers and integrators clearer.

  • Application review
  • Technology and robot selection
  • Feasibility assessment
  • Robotics architecture
  • PoC and integration planning
  • Technology benchmarking
  • R&D collaboration

How we can help

A conversation is a good place to start.

You don’t need a completed specification. Tell me what you’re trying to improve, what you’ve already considered and where you’re unsure. A photo, drawing or approximate production requirement can help, but isn’t essential for an initial discussion.

Then, depending on the project:

  1. Clarify requirements

Understand the process, its constraints and the outcome you want.

  2. Evaluate options

Consider equipment, approaches, feasibility and project constraints.

  3. Test critical assumptions

A focused technical evaluation or proof of concept, if the project needs one.

  4. Define delivery scope

Clarify equipment, engineering, responsibilities, interfaces and deliverables.

  5. Implement with agreed responsibilities

Supply equipment, and undertake or coordinate the integration and engineering in scope.

  6. Support and improve

Maintenance, training and improvements, as agreed.
